The season has quickly come upon us and for entrepreneurs, executives and professionals, here are some tips for spring cleaning your business!
1st Quarter Assessment
Just as you have an annual performance review with your employer, it’s super valuable to self-assess your business performance. Set regular time throughout the year to highlight accomplishments, lessons learned, things you’d like to repeat, improve or stop doing. At the end of this quarter, review, refresh and renew. Here are some questions to answer:
- What went really right this quarter?
- What 3 things should I continue this year?
- What have been my biggest challenges this quarter?
- What lessons did I learn from these challenges?
- What changes did I apply from these lessons?
- What should I do differently (or stop doing) next quarter to build upon my strengths and success?
- What are my top 3 goals for next quarter?
Yes. I said outsource what you’re really not great at. There’s no sense in wrecking your brain or losing credibility because you’re trying to be all things to all people. Now’s the perfect time to let go of some services. Hire a Coach. Hire an Administrative Consultant. Hire a Bookeeper. Hire a Trainer. If someone can do it better than you and they can help your business grow, it’s a WIN for you!
Clean, clean, clean!
A clean house makes everyone happy! At least in my home. It gives more room for creativity and energy. It’s like walking into a CLEAN, organized and bright Wal-Mart and instantly feeling refreshed and excited about your shopping spree. This goes for business. Clean up your office. Literally, dust off your shelves. Wipe down your desk. Deep clean the carpet. Clean out your drawers, your file trays, your “filing” tray or drawer, your inbox, your electronic files – reorganize and delete the obsolete files and those pesky paper files or what I call my “to read” pile, for goodness sake, read, scan or toss.
Take a moment to audit your website, organizational processes and social media pages. Does your website represent your brand and convey your message from your ‘welcome’ to your ‘checkout’? Do your processes align? What about your social presence? This is a good time to look at your business from the consumer or prospective consumer side. Shop with yourself and give yourself a rating as if you were shopping with Apple (insert a business favorite). Are there some processes that can be streamlined? Can your bio be spruced up? Are you using enticing images and standout colors?
If there’s room for improvement and there always is, what a great time to make it. Don’t be afraid to make changes on your own either. As I shared earlier, as entrepreneurs, we can’t be all things to all people. That’s how burnout and rundown gets the best of us. INVEST in help!
