Do you have a goal? Most of us do, however, it can be easy to lose focus. If you are like me (I’d like to think that I’m a normal person), the mind can sometimes go a mile per minute. At random times, usually in the middle of the night, I’m thinking about my next day’s to-do list, calls I need to make, my daughter’s volleyball practice schedule, what my mother asked me to remind her to do, kids upcoming picture day (need to schedule their hair appointment, or else), brilliant new business ideas, what I volunteered myself for, dinner, and so on… It is never-ending – until I get to sleep, wake up and usually repeat.
We all have something we set out to do, be it going back to school, tackling a home project, planning a family vacation, or even starting our dream business {I put a check mark next to this on my list this year – yay!}. It’s the “doing” part that gets a little fuzzy or gets pushed to the back burner when other things pop up that get our attention. When we let good ol’ LIFE happen to us and before you know it, another year has passed (true story).
If this is you, here are a few tried and true tips to help you get to completion – that special place we all want to be:
- DEFINE. DECIDE and make a personal commitment to YOUR goal. It is yours… You are the boss!
- Write your goal down and post it in a place where you can see it daily.
- Do NOT make promises to yourself that you cannot keep.
- PLAN! Break your goal down into small achievable action steps.
- WORK! Spend a few moments of dedicated time daily or weekly (or whatever schedule you have decided on) to actually work towards achieving your goal.
- STOP, STOP, STOP wasting valuable time, especially on things that conflict with your success.
Accountability starts with you! Finish that project. Enroll in school. Get the family vacation planned. Be your success story.
Time is tickin’. Happy goal setting!
